Dreaming about the days of laying on the beach in Taormina, basking in the sun, with a panino in one hand, and a lemon granita not far away. Then getting ready again for another night on the town, excited for yet another Italian dinner, which more often than not, had to be ~pasta~, and how can you go wrong there. I learnt quickly that the beautiful coastal town of Taormina had a lot of seafood prepared in their food, much like many of Sicily’s other towns.

‘Frutti di mare’; ‘fruit of the sea’; seafood found along the plentiful waters surrounding the coasts of Italy. Fresh seafood is particularly favourable in coastal towns, which have an ease of access and a long history of locals and chefs buying directly from local fish markets, where the seafood comes straight off the boat. Daily catches find their way into the supply for local restaurants, where freshness is paramount.

This painting is of a Spaghetti Alla Pescatora I had, for an even €18.00 - undoubtedly priced higher than what it would’ve been at a smaller more local restaurant, but the experience was faultless. Sure, the air con fan was blowing strongly my way and the waiters were too busy to stop, but the atmosphere was so full of life, with loud voices and laughter filling the open air. I guess I’m still thinking about that meal. 🍝🦐🌞🌊
